After travelling for about one hour, you will arrive at Cephalonia and specifically the area of Pessada. From this point you can visit the Venetian fortress of Aghios Georgios, which is located close to Travliata. After touring the inside of the Fortress, don’t miss out on admiring the view of southern Cephalonia. You can then head to the Monastery of Aghios Gerasimos located in the Omala valley.
After paying your respects to the Saints relics, go to the Monastery’s church of Panagia (Virgin Mary) and head downstairs the small underground area where Aghios Gerasimos lived a hermit’s life. The excursion continues towards the south of the island, the first stop being the village of Skala. The exceptional scenery of the pine-tree forest and beaches with crystal-clear waters will enchant you. There are many restaurants in the area where you can sit for a bite, alternatively, as you are returning, you could go through the area of Livathous and stop for fresh fish at the seaside village of Kato Katelio. Make sure you are back in Pessada on time for your return to Zante.
